ABSTRACT --- Billet production, forging, rolling, and extrusion techniques are
described. Process requirements are reviewed. Industrial trials show the extrusion
technique for producing Al and Mg alloy billet on a hydraulic horizontal press, using
specialized extrusion tooling with various cycles and billet orientations. Results
indicate that technique and tooling design ensure laminar plastic flow through the billet,
with minimal plastic strain irregularity.
