ABSTRACT --- Benchmark studies of practices employed in aluminum extrusion plants
highlight the opportunities to increase profits by maximizing productivity and recovery in all
phases of operations. The paper compares the performance of extrusion plants in numerous
operations worldwide, showing how inputs (billet and dies), press operating practices, and
downstream operations (handling, sawing, aging and packing) affect performance. The goal is
better products, higher productivity, reduced costs and increased customer satisfaction.
