ABSTRACT --- The T6-treatment for hard alloys consists of solution annealing in order
to obtain a homogeneous αAl mixed crystal followed by quenching. Required
quenching rates can go up to 300 K/s and more. In order to achieve high production
at reasonable investment and operation cost, a horizontal plant was developed for
the T6-treatment of hard alloy extrusions and rods, which allows widely automated
operation. The novel plant, some special features, and the physics of the heating
and quenching process will be described in detail.
