ABSTRACT ---Cometal Engineering has introduced two new innovations based
on HYDRO and COMETAL / WSP patents and patent applications to increase
the productivity of extrusion plants and extruded profiles:

  1. The manufacture of performing equipment, including a static quench, able to
    generate a high thermal gradient along the billet length and characterized by
    high repeatability, achieved through optimized cooling.
  2. A new configuration of upstream equipment for generating the billet
    overheating extrusion cycle.

Starting from the analysis of the metallurgical and physical aspects of the
process, it is explained how the concepts were transferred to practical
realizations and experimental results were obtained in two extrusion plants in
which the innovations are installed.
