Improvements in Modern Heating Techniques for the Extruder

M. Whisken, Inductoheat Banyard Division of Inductoheat Europe Ltd

Track: EXTRUSION EQUIPMENT - Induction/Billet Temperature

ABSTRACT ---The production requirement for many extruders has become very
intensive, with particular focus on smaller batch runs for the customer. In many cases it
can be related to the "just in time" philosophy associated with the automotive industry.
With modern heating techniques and feedback from the extruder, flexibility can be
brought to the press shop to compliment the process requirements. A number of plants
have provided typical working practice data, and we are able to show how the
Inductoheat Banyard induction heating temperature gradient methodology assists.
Comparisons with other heating technologies are offered.
