ABSTRACT --- For an extruder, it is always a challenging goal to improve the machine
output and achieve higher metal recovery. The combination of the two represents nearly
pure profit. Many factors influence machine output; one of the most important is the
extrusion speed. This study has been directed at the most important areas, that affect
output, such as dies, billet composition, and the extrusion process itself. This paper
presents trials that have been carried out, as well as actual achievements in the real
world. Every extrusion run for the study has been followed from the billet stage to
extrusion and finally to anodizing in various finishes, so that interpretation of the result is
relevant. We have attempted to cover a wide range of shapes and parameters.
Metallographic examination findings are also examined to identify metallurgical factors,
which can influence the extrudability and the finishing characteristics of the 6063 series
alloys extrusion.
