Advanced Numerical Techniques to Simulate Extrusion

ABSTRACT --- This numerical modeling optimizes complex extrusion dies and
process conditions. Simulation models developed by MTD with academic partner
EPFL are being validated/calibrated based on numerous production press
measurements. Quick problem preparation and computation enable fast problemsolving
and direct integration of simulation modules. Simulation model
developments including seamless meshing, parallel, massively parallel
computations, and 3-D Lattice-Boltzmann methods are illustrated. Model
efficiency, applications, results, and computation times are discussed.
