ABSTRACT --- Evaluations of recrystallized grain structures require an
understanding of the mechanisms for the alloy considered and the driving energy
components from thermomechanical processes. Recrystallization has historically
been relatively misunderstood at the plant level, making problem solving of these
issues difficult to accomplish. These mechanisms are elaborated in a case study
performed on a complex part requiring several thermomechanical process steps
that resulted in the recrystallization of the grains multiple times throughout the
process. Other examples of recrystallization mechanisms are provided to
reinforce the mechanisms for several alloy systems and processing operations.
