Track: MANAGEMENT ISSUES - Quality Management

ABSTRACT --- ‘Vision 85’ a project implemented at Bhoruka Aluminium Ltd (BAL),
Mysore, India, over a time span of 17 weeks, was initiated in November 2006. The goal
was to achieve a billet-to-finished extrusion metal recovery of 85 percent, hence the name
of the project. The firm had experienced an average recovery of 70 percent in the past
two decades. Increasing the recovery posted many challenges, which can be broadly
categorized as technical and adaptive. Technical challenges involved changes in planning
technique and implementation of new processes, and adaptive challenges involved
motivating and training the employees towards the project goals. In March 2007, ‘Vision
85’ was successfully completed, raising the quality of work and the production level at
Bhoruka Aluminium Limited for the future.
