ABSTRACT --- AA3003 extrusions are widely used in the heat exchanger
industry, with the most significant application being fluid transfer lines. These
are typically produced in drawn and annealed tempers to combine dimensional
control with formability. One of the key features of the product is the final postannealed
grain size, which controls the ability to bend and end-form the tubing
without the occurrence of orange peel. At the same time, good press
productivity is essential. This paper examines some of the factors controlling
extrusion speed and final grain size including the effect of iron content, which
plays a key role.
