ABSTRACT --- AFM (Abrasive Flow Machining) has been around for 20 years.
Some people regularly use it, while others think it does more damage than good.
The extruders/die makers that use AFM understand the process and its limitations
and have tuned their system with the correct media for their application – it
works. Others have used the equipment blindly, not understanding the process
and its limitations. Many users have unplugged their AFM equipment. This
paper will discuss the new developments in media, application of the process,
and testing results on new dies at the die maker and in production use at the
