ABSTRACT --- The goal of this paper is to present new development work
concerning temperature control in modern containers with multiple zone heating
and integrated cooling sections, designed to reach a controlled and constant
temperature performance. Year-long development work was performed with the
involvement of experienced press manufacturers, suppliers, and process
technologists and served as the basis for the temperature control model and the
resulting equipment specifications. Technical data were acquired and evaluated,
and a visual presentation of the reaction process model is offered and compared
with typical results. In addition to the development of improved steel qualities
and the geometric design of containers, improved heating and cooling are
essential tools for modern extrusion technology. The coordination of these
service providers is critical to production and quality just as these components
influence the life of the containers as press tools. Uncoordinated process control
reduces the life of containers independently from the steel quality used and the
mechanical construction design. Improper cooling and heating strain the
containers to the point of bursting. Competence in process control and
construction design with an optimal material selection must be used for achieving
the optimal production process.
