ABSTRACT—The Aluminum Association’s Engineering Advisory Committee continually advances the
design of aluminum extrusions for structural applications and publishes the results in the Aluminum
Design Manual (ADM). The current 2010 edition of the ADM is scheduled to be superseded in 2015.
This paper discusses topics being considered for the 2015 ADM, including alternate methods for
determining the bending and compression strength of aluminum extrusions, pins used as connectors in
aluminum structures, extrusions’ mechanical properties used in design, fire performance evaluation tests
for various aluminum alloys, and screw chases.
