ABSTRACT—The paper presents the technology evolution experienced within the aluminum
fenestration industry, from the use of manual fabrication machineries, through the introduction of
computer numerical control (CNC) equipment, and the integration to fenestration business
management software. As for other industries, business management software contributes to the
automation of company processes by integrating and facilitating data transfer between functions
and departments (sales, project management, manufacturing, and installation). The increasing
demand to integrate, at IT level, fenestration systems data to production systems has today led the
suppliers of the fenestration industry (mainly systems, machinery equipment, and software
suppliers) to a sort of market liberalization: for the success of their businesses, even in a regime
of competition, these entities are in fact forced to cooperate with each other.
