Track: VALUE-ADDED PROCESSES - Process Improvements
ABSTRACT—The stretch wrapping of both master bundles and wooden battens has many advantages:
strapping (a costly and high-maintenance process) is not required; there is no need for milled grooves in
the battens; tensioning of piled bundles is always ensured; there is flexibility in covered surfaces (stretch
wrapping of only wooden battens); and there is well-distributed master bundle tension. Furthermore, the
process requires the operator only for the loading of the bundle battens, depending on the specific width.
The operator in this area can take care of paper work, bundle weight, and supervision, while the packing
line performs the operation. A highly-sensitive photo eye stops the stretch wrapping operation if a film
brake is detected.
