ABSTRACT—Die and press parameters are correlated, establishing a die life curve. Die wear
influences include press pressure, billet temperature, die design, and extrusion ratio. Parameter
effects are measured; effects on profiles and die bearing are prioritized based on die wear rate.
Data collection methodology is established. Die nitriding limits and billets per loading are
predicted, optimizing die bearing wear rates.
