ABSTRACT—This presentation will cover Nondestructive Examination (NDE) methods
application to hydraulic press main hydraulic cylinders as a predictive maintenance procedure.
The NDE methods that will be described include: visual, magnetic particle (MT), liquid penetrant
(PT), and ultrasonics (UT), and their applications to hydraulic cylinder pressure walls. While
focusing mainly on the process and applications to hydraulic cylinder pressure walls, this paper
will also delve into the benefits of NDE, and as a predictive maintenance tool, what these
methods may offer a company. When companies correctly apply NDE methods, they show better
operational efficiency, improved safety of employees, and better customer satisfaction.
